How to support yourself during hard times?

At some point in life everybody faces challenges of various kinds, be it an illness, a loss of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, financial crisis or any other traumatic event or difficult situation.

Homeopathy and autopathy are effective methods in the process of healing a disease. They are also able to treat many different emotional, mental or physical symptoms following a trauma and so release the accumulated blockages causing issues.

In addition, there are some more things I find useful and helpful that you can apply to support yourself when facing adversity or hard times.

Forgive yourself

We are constantly making small or big decisions. However, sometimes the outcome does not turn out as we expected and we beat ourselves up for making the wrong choices and continue living in guilt and regret. We regret either what we did or what we didn´t do. Guilt and regret are destructive emotions to our being and keep us stuck in a negative loop of thinking and feeling. Therefore, the first thing you need to do so that you can move forward is forgiving yourself…

Let me tell you there are no wrong decisions. There are only decisions we make based on the knowledge, information, situation and current circumstances. We always make the best possible choices we are capable of at that moment. At every moment we do the best we can. Ask yourself honestly if you were again in the same situation within the given circumstances, having the same knowledge and information… How would you decide?….Most likely the same as before. So there are no mistakes, only lessons. Lessons needed to grow and heal.

Therefore, forgive yourself for not knowing better at the time. For not knowing what you know now. You did the best you could at the time. Forgive yourself for giving away your power. Forgive yourself for past behaviours. Free yourself from the past. Forgive yourself for who you needed to be. You were everything you could be.

Don´t be afraid to stumble. You never know – sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to great destinations.

Acceptance and learning from adversity

The unhappiness or suffering comes either from having what we did not want or not having what we wanted. Going back to what happened, why it happened or asking “why me” over and over again will not help you to feel better or move forward.

Ask yourself what is this situation or experience showing me? What can I learn from this? What would I do differently next time and why? With this understanding praise yourself for your ability of self-reflection, for admitting to yourself what needs to be admitted, for getting wiser through this experience. And then accept it and let it go.

“Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Act if possible. Do not act if not possible.” – Eckhart Tolle

Acceptance does not mean you have to like the situation or you stay passive. It just means you accept where you are in life and do not create resistance to what is. If you stay in the victim mode and don’t accept the situation, you might stay stuck. Resistance only consumes energy that is needed to take steps forward. In acceptance there is a release of energy and it is where true transformation happens. At this point you can more easily search for solutions and what you actually can change. We can either change something on the outside or within ourselves. Sometimes if we cannot change the external circumstances, we are challenged to change ourselves. As a result, our situation changes.

In every adversity there is an opportunity. Change your perspective and look for this opportunity.

“Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune or temporary defeat. Every adversity, every failure, every heartbreak carries with it the seed of an equal or better benefit.” – Napoleon Hill

Find your inner strength and resilience

Know that everything that happened to you or you go through is not happening to you. It is happening for you. It is here to challenge you to rise above it. Remember, we are never given bigger obstacles and challenges we can actually overcome. So even if it may seem too hard or impossible, you can find a way through it.

In times of uncertainty, fear and pain we discover our strength and resilience. With inner strength, resilience, determination, perseverance and commitment keep pushing forward to achieve your goal no matter the challenges. No matter how many times you fall, get up and keep going. Eventually you will get there.

Show yourself love and kindness

Especially in times of hardship, be kind to yourself. There are a few things you can control to show yourself love and kindness. It is what you feed your mind and body with – what thoughts you think and how you treat your body.

Be aware of what thoughts you have. Are they supportive and loving towards yourself? Or are they destructive? Your whole being reacts to how you talk to ourselves. Every cell in the body reacts to your thoughts. A thought creates a feeling, an emotion which in turn affects your state of being. Do not let your mind have power over you. You can control your mind and choose thoughts you think. Thoughts can make you feel better or worse, healthier or more sick.

“You have absolute control over only just one thing, your thoughts. This divine gift is the sole means by which you can control your destiny. If you fail to control your mind, you will control nothing else.” – Napoleon Hill

We think around 70.000 thoughts every day and 95% of these thoughts are the same as the day before. Some of these thoughts we have everyday about us, our situation or life are limiting beliefs. They are just not true. Only because you have a thought it does not necessarily mean it is true. If you change what you think and believe, your life will change too. Also be conscious about what pictures you put in your head. Imagine what you want and not what you do not want.

“The only way we can change our lives is to change our energy – to change the electromagnetic field we are constantly broadcasting. In other words, to change our state of being, we have to change how we think and how we feel.” – Joe Dispenza

Be kind to your body, the temple of your soul. Nourish it with healthy food and drink plenty of clean water. Spend at least some time outside in the fresh air. Sit in the sun. Go for a walk in nature. Have a relaxing bath with sea salt. Or do whatever feels good to you and is possible for you at this moment. Think about things you do and are harmful to your body. Is it an excessive amount of alcohol or cigarettes, unhealthy food, lack of sleep etc.? Be kind to your body and treat it with love. It is your choice.

Gratitude

When we are not doing well, we tend to focus on what we don’t have instead on what we do have. Even in hard times we can find a few things to be grateful for. Being in a state of gratitude can immediately improve how you feel. What is more, you cannot be scared, fearful and grateful at the same time.

Everyday before you go to bed, think about the things you are grateful for. Do you have a comfortable bed to sleep on? Food to eat? Could you make yourself a cup of tea in the morning? Could you go for a walk? Could you take a warm shower? Did you talk to someone who cares about you? Do you feel better today than yesterday? Focus even on the slightest improvement and be grateful for that. Where your attention goes, energy flows. Be grateful for what you have and you will get more to be grateful for.

Don’t compare yourself to others

Oftentimes when we face challenging situations, we look around and think we are the only ones who struggle or suffer. The thing is, everybody is going through something. Maybe in different areas of life, maybe at different times or maybe it is just not visible to us. At some point life challenges us all to wake us up. These challenges are perfectly tailor-made for us to push us beyond our limitations to get closer and closer to who we are supposed to be. So do not compare your life to anyone else´s. Everybody is here to have different experiences and lessons. Focus on yourself. Compare yourself today to yourself yesterday, a month ago, a year ago… Look at what you have accomplished, how you have progressed and how you have changed. Celebrate even the smallest progress and praise yourself for it.

Have faith

In times of adversity people lose hope and faith too early and their mind and body are dominated and consumed by fear. They limit their minds with what is possible or not. Faith and fear both demand you believe in something you cannot see. And the choice is only yours. Remember, you are guided, protected, supported and loved at all times. The universe loves you unconditionally and wants you to strive. You are allowed to live a good life. You deserve to live a good life. A good life exists for you.

If you struggle, ask for help. Ask your guardian angels and spirit guides for help, support and guidance. We all have free will on this Earth and they are not allowed to intervene without your permission. If you ask, they will be happy to help you. This is why they are here – to protect and guide you. Be open to receiving.

We do not see the whole path. It is like driving a car in fog, where you can only see a few steps ahead but you trust with the next move you will see further. Take the first step and trust you will see the next one afterwards. Trust you have all the information and all you need at every time. Whatever you need will come to you at the right time.

Keep the faith. Do not give up.

“All is well. Everything is working out for my highest good. Out of this experience only good will come. I am safe.” – Louise Hay
